The Clemson Tigers are the athletic teams that represent Clemson University, located in Clemson, South Carolina. They compete as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level (Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) for football).

The Clemson digital team are among the most talented groups in College athletics. They have done an incredible job creating content and elevating brand awareness through the social channels. Our goal was to create a platform that allows Clemson Athletics to story tell in a manner which truly expresses what it means to be a Clemson Tiger.
As any sports fan will tell you, having by the minute, play-by-play video highlights, photos, statistics and scoring in the palm of your hands is essential. As sports fans ourselves, it takes one to know one, so we tailor-made the official Clemson Tigers athletic site with mobile users as a priority, including breaking news for every sport, comprehensive photo galleries, rosters, post-game statistics and schedules for all 15 women’s and men’s sports.
WMT added a schedule banner on the top of the site where fans could easily access scores and schedules for each game day, along with another great feature - the full capability to add GIFs on the main homepage banner and any other article. This is something unique to WMT and that our partners have found to be very useful when promoting games and events.
When we evaluate the redesign of any website or platform, we analyze the data first. It is important to understand how fans are consuming and navigating through content.
When our team analyzed Clemson's user engagement, we realized the incredible reach and interactions with social posts on mobile while noticing an engagement gap on the official athletic site. Partnering with Clemson allowed us to evaluate this opportunity to design a platform with a mobile-first approach.
With Clemson solidifying themselves as one of the most storied college football programs in the country, WMT partnered with the Clemson University Athletic Department to help build a responsive website compatible with mobile that would help boost engagement, and provide a more engaging fan experience for potential Clemson football recruits and student-athletes.
During the 2018 National Championship, WMT measured online traffic at ClemsonTigers.com for the 24 hours after the game and found: The site hosted 307,120 sessions during that period with an average visit of 3.77 pages per session. In all, 267,235 users came to the site after the game, and 81.8 percent of the users had never been to ClemsonTigers.com before.
Additionally, our team designed, developed and currently host DaboSwinney.com which offers a refined and inviting navigable user interface. Developing DaboSwinney.com has been an incredible opportunity for the WMT team as it allowed us to create a platform that tells the story of Clemson's incredible offering in College Athletics for fans and potential student athletes. As a result, the new DaboSwinney.com has increased their overall page visits and fan engagement on the site by more than 132%.
Mobile App Design
Clemson's revamped mobile app design and strategy that took hold in the fall of 2023 has skyrocketed app engagement and given the Tigers yet another powerful tool to interact with its fanbase. Clemson now uses it's 'gameday mode', traditionally used on home football Saturdays, as a 'shop mode' for away games. The Tigers also feature their Clemson+ platform in the bottom navigation, solidifying the mobile app as a one-stop-shop for all things Clemson Tigers.
Our Results
Clemson's revamped mobile app strategy in 2023 including a new push notification strategy for merchandise, game updates, live audio and more led to significant YOY increases in sessions and registered users.
